The Boys & Girls Clubs of Stoneham & Wakefield is excited to announce Amber Roehrich has been named the Youth of the Year for the 2021-2022 school year. The Youth of the Year title is a prestigious honor bestowed upon an exemplary young person in recognition of leadership, service, academic excellence and dedication to living a healthy lifestyle.
Amber has been a member at the Wakefield Club for the last 8 years and is currently a senior at Wakefield High School. She will be attending Umass Amherst and majoring in Sports management, where she is interested in working within the field of Marketing and Analytics.
“This award means a lot to me. I’ve grown up in the club for the past 8 years now seeing friends and other staff members that I’ve looked up to receive this award. It makes me feel like I’ve done something right and I hope it inspires other kids in the club to stick it out for the long haul and see how far it can take them,” said Amber about her award announcement.
Amber will go on to vie for the Massachusetts Youth of the Year title and a college scholarship from Boys & Girls Clubs of America. If Amber wins at the state competition, she will compete for the title of North East Region Youth of the Year and an additional college scholarship. Regional winners will advance to Washington D.C. to compete for the title of Boys & Girls Clubs of America’s National Youth of the Year.
Joe D’Alessandro, Director of the Wakefield Boys & Girls Clubs, was thrilled to recommend Amber for the honor. “I have been working closely with Amber over the years in a variety of capacities here at the Club. Watching her grow up into the ambitious, hard working, intuitive young woman she is today has been an absolute pleasure. Amber is relentless when it comes to her passions in life and it is very refreshing to see someone her age work the way she does. Amber pushes herself both academically and socially to be the best person, athlete, student, and friend she can be.”
The Boys & Girls Clubs of Stoneham & Wakefield sends heartfelt congratulations and thanks Amber for her years invested into our Clubs and wishes her the best of luck in the Massachusetts Youth of the Year competition.
